Japan Apple fans are waiting in front of the Softbank Mobile store to get the 3rd generation iPhone to come out in Japan. It is going to release the 3rd generation iPhone at 7 A.M. on Friday in Japan, which is 3 P.M. on Thursday in the Pacific time. In Japan the 3rd generation iPhone is the first iPhone to be released in Japan, because the 2nd generation iPhone were not compatible with Japan cell phone services. in Japan, Softbank Mobile is the only carrier to offer the 3rd generation iPhone right now, while other carriers are working to make the iPhone available for them. Though the iPhone has touch-screen capability, the iPhone is less revolutionary in Japan since many of the phone in Japan are able to receive digital broadcast, making digital payments at stores or vending machine. Also about 107 million cell phone already has 3G capability. Overall, many of the people in Japan will be less impressed with the iPhone when it comes out.  Source
